The mission of the Jacksonville Regional Economic Development Corp. (JREDC) has remained the same since its inception as the Jacksonville Area Industrial Corp. in 1964: to create, expand, recruit and retain job opportunities for Morgan County.
Today, the JREDC Board of Directors and staff are dedicated to continuing this mission through business attraction and business creation initiatives, retention and expansion of current industry and development of our workforce in both Morgan and Scott counties.
To achieve this work critical to the health of our regional economy, JREDC’s Board of Directors adopted a five-year Regional Economic Development Plan in 2018, identifying seven goals that guide our daily work. These strategies include improving quality of place, creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem, strengthening the region’s workforce, assisting existing businesses to expand and grow, developing available properties in the region, engaging community-based organizations and pursuing development that diversifies the region’s economy.

The City of Jacksonville is located in west central Illinois, 35 miles west of Springfield, the state capital. It is the county seat of Morgan County and one of the oldest towns in the Land of Lincoln, founded in 1825. Jacksonville was established by Yankee settlers from New England, who laid out farms, constructed roads, erected government buildings, and established post routes. They were part of a wave of European/American farmers who headed west into what was then the wilds of the Northwest Territory, during the early 1800s. Download Here!
