EDUCATION
K - 12
The residents of Morgan and Scott counties enjoy a variety of services from 18 elementary schools and 9 high schools. Educating more than 1000 students annually, Jacksonville High School has the broadest curriculum in the area. Classes are offered in agriculture, business, family and consumer sciences, health occupations, and trade and technical education to prepare students for direct entry into the job market or further education.
The school districts of Franklin, Meredosia-Chambersburg, Triopia and Waverly cater to students in rural Morgan County while two school districts based in Winchester and Bluffs serve the educational needs of Scott County residents.
Jacksonville is also the home of several strong parochial schools. Our Saviour Grade School and Routt Catholic High School offer a Roman Catholic learning environment while Westfair Christian Academy provides a K-12 setting affiliated with the Westfair Baptist Church. Salem Lutheran School provides another opportunity for a Christian education for K-8 student.
Jacksonville School District 117's eight elementary schools assure parents that their children will receive the personal attention they need. Highlights of the elementary schools include parent groups, computer literacy programs, attendance motivators, volunteer programs, field trips, parent/teacher conferences, enrichment activities, extended classroom experiences, computer labs, musical performances and school/business partnerships.
Higher Education
Jacksonville is a college town "and proud of it" with two private liberal arts colleges, and a community college. Their presence inspires residents and vitalizes the area, affording countless opportunities for cultural and educational enrichment. Community members interact with prominent national scholars and leaders who regularly appear at the colleges.
Illinois College (founded 1829, Phi Beta Kappa) is expanding with major new science and fitness facilities. MacMurray College (founded 1846), is expanding with a new center for the Arts, provides a career-directed curriculum to its diverse student body. The Western Regional Education Center of Lincoln Land Community College develops specialized employee training programs for local business and industry.
