LANDES TRUCKING

Robert Sibert Spacer Rusty Landes
Owner
Landes Trucking
Jacksonville, IL

Rusty Landes launched Landes Trucking in 1979 with one truck and one trailer. The company currently employs 60 people and has a fleet of 50 late model Mack trucks and 100 trailers. The firm transports products including animal fats and oils, corn syrup, lactic acid and beverage alcohol to clients nationwide. In 2000, the business moved into a new, 16,000 square foot facility in Jacksonville's Eastgate Industrial Park. The state-of-the-art facility includes a motor freight terminal tank wash and maintenance shop. Landes Trucking was honored in 1995 as "Industry of the Year" by the Jacksonville Regional Economic Development Corporation.

"My business began when a locally-owned bank in Jacksonville was willing to take a chance on a young man with a dream. We've worked hard and fought a lot of battles since then to get where we are."

"I'm sure we wouldn't have our business today if it weren't for the personal touch and tremendous help we've received from Jacksonville area leaders."

"We'd been trying to find a place for several years to put in a motor freight terminal tank wash for food grade hauling. The mayor of Jacksonville worked with us so we could locate in the city's new industrial park and get the zoning we needed. Everything that we needed was here: the infrastructure and the room to grow. The help we received from local government was pivotal in our moving here and our continued growth."

"Our location is fantastic, right next to Interstate 72, which leads to Springfield and Interstate 55. We can quickly and easily get to St. Louis and Chicago. It's a great central location for our trucks, which haul products coast to coast and in Canada."

"Our area governmental and economic development leaders had the vision to build this industrial park with the infrastructure to support new businesses. More are building here as we speak. Jacksonville's been lucky to have numerous entrepreneurs over the years who could have moved their businesses elsewhere, but chose to remain here because of the great support of the community and the quality of life. Many of the companies in the area located here at least partly because of our infrastructure, our transportation systems, and central location. "A great thing about the Jacksonville area is that so many entities rally together when a new business wants to come in. They try to help them get their business established and are there to help them succeed and grow. Another advantage of the Jacksonville region is the workforce. Our people have a solid, Midwestern work ethic. We have good workers who show a lot of common sense."

"I highly recommend the Jacksonville region as a place to work and live."

"The schools are excellent, even for children with special needs, who can attend the Illinois School for the Deaf or Illinois School for the Visually Impaired. And with our two, four-year colleges and community college, I don't think you can beat this area when it comes to education."

"It's also a great place for family fun. We have outstanding golf courses, beautiful parks, and numerous sporting activities for children and adults. We're only a half hour away from the state capitol of Springfield, and an hour and a half from St. Louis with its major league sports, art museums and other cultural activities."

"In the Jacksonville area, there's a personal touch. From that banker who took a chance on me and loaned me the money to buy my first truck, to the mayor and city leaders who helped us fulfill our dreams of expansion, we've had a lot of support from a lot of people. We're here to stay."

"Jacksonville is a place where you can find people willing to work with you, and you can't find a better group of people to work with."

"Opportunities are here for anyone who wants to pursue them."
